Divorce Litigation

To begin the process, a petition must be filed in family court. The couple then have the option of mediation or litigation. Mediation allows the couple to peacefully divide their possessions and custody issues. Litigation usually is more expensive because lawyers must present their case to a judge to reach a decision. It can take months and possibly even years to complete the task of dividing the assets and solving any custody disputes.
